Fire doors for interiors

Excellent quality in fire protection and security doors is characterised precisely by the fact that you cannot see what the doors are capable of.
Fire doors serve as fire protection closures. They ensure that building sections are safely separated from each other to prevent the spread of fire. Basic information on fire protection doors in interior rooms

Essential tasks of a fire door

For internal walls with fire protection requirements, door openings may only be fitted with doors that also have fire protection properties. This is the only way to ensure the complete fire protection effect of a wall. To prevent fire flashover in the door area in the event of a fire, a fire door must be self-closing in accordance with DIN 4102. It is equally important to adjust the fire door correctly in order to achieve the required fire protection.

Other features: Smoke protection and hold-open systems

Smoke protection doors do not belong to the fire protection door category because they do not have the thermal performance of a fire protection door. Fire protection doors of any material and also glass fire protection doors can also fulfil the "smoke protection" property if they are designed accordingly. Either way, fire doors in accordance with DIN 4102 must have approved hold-open systems with fire detectors that automatically close open doors in the event of a fire.

Requirements for a fire door in accordance with DIN 4102

Fire doors are categorised into different fire resistance classes depending on their fire resistance duration. The designations T30 and T90 defined in DIN 4102 refer to a fire resistance duration in minutes determined during tests. The European standard DIN EN 13501 provides further specifications in this regard. A fire protection door that also fulfils the "smoke protection" property is supplemented with the abbreviation "RS" (smoke protection): for example T30 RS. The same applies to any glass fire door.

Fire doors - materials and properties

Most common fire door materials: wood, steel, aluminium and glass

Fire protection doors of different fire resistance classes in accordance with DIN 4102 can be made of combustible building materials (e.g. T30 doors made of wood) and can also be manufactured as glass fire protection doors in accordance with standards. An alternative to timber fire doors are fire protection systems made of aluminium, which offer slim frame profiles, elegant design and great design freedom.

Fire door with glass - glass cut-outs and fixed glazing

Whether made of wood, steel or aluminium - fire doors certified to DIN 4102 do not have to be solid-walled. Fire doors with glass are also possible. They can be fitted with large glass cut-outs and supplemented with fixed glazing elements on the sides to create a visually open appearance. Fire protection systems allow the installation of various types of fire-resistant glass, usually with glass thicknesses of up to 60 mm.

Thermal insulation in a fire door?

Fire doors with double-walled door leaves are often filled with fire-retardant mineral wool thermal insulation. This insulation has very good thermal insulation properties and a melting point of over 1000 °C. This supports the fire-resistant properties of the fire doors - regardless of whether they are made of steel, aluminium, wood or a combination of these materials.

Fire doors between interior rooms and garage

Regardless of whether fire protection doors are designed with glass or solid walls: If they are located at the transition between different areas of a building, they often have to fulfil not only fire protection requirements but also other security aspects. These include, for example, smoke and noise protection or protection against burglary and vandalism. Multifunctional fire and smoke protection systems that combine all these functional requirements as security doors are ideal for this purpose.

Security doors with fire protection function

Regardless of whether fire protection doors are designed with glass or solid walls: If they are located at the transition between different areas of a building, they often have to fulfil not only fire protection requirements but also other security aspects. These include, for example, smoke and noise protection or protection against burglary and vandalism. Multifunctional fire and smoke protection systems that combine all these functional requirements as security doors are ideal for this purpose.

Burglary protection and fire protection cannot only be achieved with solid steel doors

Solid-walled steel doors are ideal as security doors due to their robustness, but all too often require compromises in terms of aesthetics. For high design and security requirements, modern fire and smoke protection systems offer great scope for design in terms of glazing, profile thicknesses and colours. Excellent quality in security doors is characterised by the fact that you can't tell what the doors are capable of.

Who is authorised to adjust and install a fire door?

The installation and adjustment of a fire door or security door should always be carried out by certified specialist companies. This is the only way to ensure that all installation requirements are met and that the doors actually fulfil all the required functions. In particular, the correct installation and adjustment of hold-open systems and fire detectors as well as the design of the wall connections to match the wall type must be taken into account.

Accessibility for fire doors

The biggest obstacle to the barrier-free design of internal fire doors is the fact that they have to be self-closing. The installation of hold-open systems is essential so that wheelchair users are not faced with closed doors. These ensure that permanently open doors close automatically in the event of a fire. If fire doors have to remain closed during everyday use, electric swing door drives can be installed that open the doors automatically at the push of a button or with motion detectors.

Gate systems are subject to heavy stress through daily use, which can result in wear and tear. Due to the simple and clear structure, some parts can be replaced quickly. Our customer service will be happy to help you. You can reach us at 0180 3900505 or under service@kaeuferle.de.

Due to defined exceptions in the standards and guidelines, an emergency stop command device is not mandatory for our door systems, which of course comply with the latest state of the art.

Bitte ersetzen Sie beide Federn.

Partition systems

We will be happy to supply you with a locking cylinder for each door. However, this is not integrated into the locking system of your building. If you prefer a cylinder that matches the locking system, you will need a half cylinder in size 10/30 for our UTS doors with a PZ handle and a half cylinder in size 30/60 for doors with a lever handle set.
